The Anglesey Beekeepers' Association (ABKA)
is a thriving association of like minded people in NW Wales who are commited to the art of raising and producing local
bees and honey using the current perceived best principles. Most of its' members are based on the Isle of Anglesey but
there are a few in neighbouring Gwynedd and even one as far afield as the Wirral. ABKA was formed in 1925
Our Mission
The Association starts its year in with a series of four spring lecture meetings in February through to May. These lectures
cover a wide range of topics of interest to beekeepers. In May we hold Training Apiary visits at which less experienced beekeepers
can learn how to manage their hives. During the summer months, there are at least two social apiary visits when we are invited
to go along to members apiaries, see what they are doing and partake of tea afterwards. In September we have an Association
Honey Show which is judged live so that people can learn this aspect of beekeeping. In October we have an autumn lecture and
November sees our AGM. The year finishes with a Christmas dinner at which we celebrate a successful year`s beekeeping or look
forward to a better season next year.
The Association meets at Rhosmeirch Community Hall (just outside Llangefni
on the Llanerchymedd road). Regular meetings take place on the first Wednesday of the month (unless otherwise stated on the
programme card) commencing at 7.00pm. ABKA is affiliated to the Welsh Beekeepers` Association and membership brings with it
disease insurance for up to 2 hives and third party and product liability cover. Any body is welcome to come along to a meeting
and have free sample – as it were – and see whether they would like to join ABKA.
